There are a number of worthy charities serving the comics community and very deserving of your support. If you consider yourself to be a member or fan of the comics community it would be great if you could contribute to one or more of these causes.
The CBLDF (Comic Book Legal Defense Fund) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the First Amendment rights of the comics medium. They provide legal aid, education, and advocacy to protect the First Amendment rights of the readers, creators, retailers, publishers, and librarians of comics, manga, and graphic novels.
The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero creates a financial safety net for yesterdays' creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. It's a chance for all of us to give back something to the people who have given us so much enjoyment. Since its inception, The Hero Initiative (Formerly known as A.C.T.O.R., A Commitment To Our Roots) has had the good fortune to grant over $500,000 to over 50 comic book veterans who have paved the way for those in the industry today.
Donate comic books from the Platinum Age, Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, or Modern Age to Collectibles with Causes and take back some closet space! The tax deduction benefits far outweigh having to sell the Comic book collection yourself, and the proceeds benefit families in need across the United States. Fair market tax deductions possible.
The Comic Book Project engages children in a creative process leading to literacy reinforcement, social awareness, and character development, then publishes and distributes their work for other children in the community to use as learning and motivational tools.
The mission of Comics4kids is to help kids learn to love to read comics. They collect comics and donate them to children. You can also donate more valuable comics which they will sell and use the proceeds to buy comics for kinds. With your support they can get comics to boys and girls that have requested them.
Note: This charity we are endorsing is based out of Seattle, WA and is NOT the same as the ComicsForKids organization based out of Tishomingo, Mississippi raising up a fuss on BleedingCool a few years back.
The goal of Operation Comix Relief is to get comic books to ill and/or wounded soldiers as well as any front line soldier serving in the US Military, to provide them with some much needed diversionary activities.
